I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

great people, great training opportunities.

Cons

Too much work, not enough people. This is mostly due to poorly designed contracts that give too much leeway or power to the client.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stand up to the client more. if they knew how to do what we do, they wouldn't need us

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of different projects to choose from - don't have to change companies to radically change jobs. Pretty reasonable budgets for new equipment and tools. Most coworkers are a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

Stifling bureaucracy. Nearly impossible to get anything done fast due to the sheer number of people whose main jobs are to raise objections. Work environment is a cramped cubicle farm. Last 10 years or so, company has become a hire and fire operation - out of control hiring followed by massive layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push decision making back down to lower levels

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It's magnificent size and scale. If you know how to leverage the organization great things can happen. The reach is unbelievable and there is a great diversity within all the different BU's, regional and country organizations.

    Cons

Too bureaucratic, too bloated. HP has moved away from employee empowerment, one of the hallmarks of the company, which leaves too many decisions for senior management.
