Current Employee - Software Engineer in Houston, TX

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There's some stability if you're in the right department.

    Cons

Typical big IT company, not much innovation, just follow the crowd and always looking at ways to cut cost. Stagnant, changes that doesn't really change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize quality employees. Don't hire outside talent when you can instead grow talent internally, think OKC vs MIA.

HP lost its way - and its heart

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

HP is a strong supporter of telework.

    Cons

The biggest problem with HP is that the company has lost its heart. There is no passion there. Working for HP is like eating dry white toast every day. Employees seem indifferent most of the time. The company has templatized everything so much that it stifles creativity and innovation. There is so much bureaucracy, it makes getting anything done next to impossible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HP Management - Listen to your employees. Care about your employees. Don't just say you do - really care about what they have to say, how they feel and how they are. HP has lost its heart and this loss is evident in the workplace and is showing itself in your products. There is simply no passion there. Improve your compensation, improve your benefits, show you care, and maybe your employees will too.
