I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good for slow-going people. Relaxed life style.

Cons

Has lost the charm and lusture from old days/years. Too many management changes in last few years. Very shoddy on employee benefits and compensation.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the employees first, and everything else will fall in line. Get rid of dead wood.

    Pros

Employee benefits, compensation, and amount of resources....

    Cons

Too complicated and big. HP never integrates the companies it acquires well and the resources overlap one another. By far the most complicated and frustrated company I've ever worked for. HP also doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up. They've had 3 CEO's in the past 2 years, bought a sfw company for 10 billion, sold off it's pc division, brought it back, killed it's palm division, on and on. HP was a joke when I was there and their customers believe this as well. Support was horrendous for my clients. Management was even worse. Trying to bring EMC mentality into old school HP will kill their salesforce and they'll go to better companies without the stress of selling a 'dog'. New Hire training was laughable. Culture was horrible too. Much better companies out there...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit building barriers for your employees. It shouldn't take 2 days to quote a customer on a product. Internal sales systems and tracking are an absolute nightmare.

    Pros

The pay is better than market average. But don't count on a long term career path here.
The HP brand still counts for something. Use it while it still exists.

    Cons

Terrible orgaization culture / Poor employee quality / Highly siloed organization /

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent. Get your nose out of the spreadsheets, and look at your markets & customers strategically. Plan beyond just meeting the next quarters numbers.
