A good place to start

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood Brand (but eroding). Talented engineers on some teams.

Flexible work hours. Work-life balance. Many learning opportunities for self starters.

You can do well if you end up on a good team or have a good direct-report manager.

Company somehow managed to stay profitable despite being in turmoil for well over a decade.

ConsLow salaries, and low morale. Hard to get promoted in technical ladder. Main options are to become a manager. Some cronyism exists and only close friends of managers gets promoted. Attrition is a serious problem.

Lack of any real technical mentoring program. You must learn on your own. Clueless engineers remain clueless and slow the team down.

Some product development focused on how to rip off customers (that are vendor locked) instead of building a good quality product.

Bogged down by mandated processes or tools that are poor or bad fit for the job. Sr. Management and Mid-level management mostly clueless and are there to pillage the company. There are too many managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a flatter organization. Cut out 2-3 levels of middle management. Replace with engineers. Stop acquiring companies and innovate from within. Also promote CEOs from within that actually understand the company.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
