Current Employee - Account Delivery Manager  in  Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Account Delivery Manager in Chicago, IL

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Wide range of skills used and honed on a regular basis. P&L, People, Technical and Sales.
Endless job opportunities if you are a dedicate top performer.

Cons

Upheaval in org charts happen way to often. Job security is missing. Raises are rarely granted, even with a promotion. Bonuses are pretty much a joke. When i talk to my counter parts with other companies that regularly receive cost of living raises plus bonus's around 20% and we are lucky to see 2.5 %.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve training and start to provide cost of living expenses. Many of us are being chased by HP's competitors. With much higher salaries.

Lots of pressure while under a constant wonder of impending layoffs.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The co-workers worked hard to make a difference, and worked hard to keep a sane and fun team environment even with the turmoil in the C suite.

    Cons

Employees became disposable resources, managers were looking to protect themselves and staff were often the chips in the big game of corporate survival. Constant cuts to staff and budgets caused undue pressure for all, company embarked on a plan to cut costs, as a result most long term employees were forced out, even if they were top producers. Loyalty was often rewarded with a RIF notice.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The ability of the field workforce that are actaully working with customers to continue to adapt to changing directions / strategy / leadership / market conditions and competition. This hasn't been an easy road.

    Cons

The morale of the field workforce is terrible. The long time legacy HP employee has left or will be leaving shortly (with the Early Retirement offer). There are no longer leaders in any of the HP business units that have come up through the HP ranks. It is all outsiders that hire others form the outside and then eventually leave (with a nice seperation package usually).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would look in side of HP (FIRST) to hire new management. You are making a BIG mistake by not promoting the people that have done the day to day work nad have built up a network inside HP.
