Current Employee - Software Development Engineer in Stuttgart (Germany)

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Capable engineers. Vision to provide meaningful innovation to the world.

Cons

Decision to kill the WebOS mobile business caused a lot of damage, externally and internally. Too many expensive aquisitions in recent years that didn't pay off.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clear strategy how to proceed in the consumer market, especially in the important tablet and mobile market. Find ways to differentiate from the competitors.

Former Employee - Senior Manager in Singapore (Singapore)

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Remuneration is slightly above average
Lots of good processes in place
Good place to learn & put on your resume

    Cons

Management & working environment tend to be very cold
Lack of long term direction from Senior Management
Constant changes to policies that are usually short term in nature
Expats Managers tend to hire their own kind (foreigners) and does not bother to understand the local culture
Respective Business Units tend to work in silos with lack of cooperations among each team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to set Long Term Strategy & get strong buy in from the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors need to have a longer term outlook
Don't neglect the company's work culture which is deteriorating by the day

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Stockholm, Stockholm (Sweden)

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good experience to have on your CV. Opportunities to work from home. Good to have the experience of working in a global organization and seen the pros and cons of outsourcing and right-shoring.

    Cons

Poor and slow internal tools and processes. Most often extremely long decision paths. No mandatory pay reviews related to promotions or increased responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too strict cost control most probably often cost more money than it saves. Give managers in low- and intermediate level more financial responsibility!
