Ok; though company needs to focus more on innovation; less on quarterly earnings statements

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Work/life balance. Employees empowered to make decisions vs. being micro-managed.
There seems to be a push recently for more innovation; which is good.

Cons

Management direction has changed quite often over past several years. Stick to what we do best. Need to innovate in emerging markets vs. investing $$$ into saturated markets that have limited growth capabilities. With the size of the company, I wonder if management has difficulties staying focused on the future growth businesses vs. managing the businesses that are in shrinking markets. Perhaps best to divest and focus on the higher growth potential markets.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

company has great benefits..actually excellent benefits

    Cons

lower mgmt structure..mg1, mg2...are not in touch with employees..most are offsite so they have No idea what is going on..for the most part if they are not true managers who have done the position they are managing they tend not to have good knowledge to pass along to upper management when things are wrong. The group I used to work in had very poor managers and were very poor at both people mgmt and leadership. The department has been suffering for the last 3 years because of it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop sending jobs to Mexico and India. Train your managers to manage better and lead better. Invest in your U.S. Employees..actually talk to your lower level employees...not the mg1 and mg2 but the actual individual contributors in another means other than a survey. You might actually find out why you are losing your talented people.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

work/life balance; some aspects of the HP way still exists; good, hard working team members who care about the company and want to succeed

    Cons

constant management turmoil, the business transformations seem to never end, having a focused strategy even at lower levels of the organziation is a challenge

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

focus, execute and stop trying to be all things to customers.
