Current Employee - Supply Chain Manager in Fort Collins, CO
Current Employee - Supply Chain Manager in Fort Collins, CO

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Working from home is a tremendous benefit
Some great products, need to work on others

Cons

Salary is fair...less than competitive for those who missed "the good years"
Pockets of negativity...and borderline bullying...seems to be tolerated

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pockets of bullying - executives yelling, swearing, & publicly talking other people/groups down - does't match HP's advertised values.

A formerly good company, gone terribly, terribly wrong.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    - well-known brand
    - lots of geographic locations
    - extremely work from home-friendly

    Cons

    - inept management, with lots of in-fighting between different divisions
    - very little job security, frequent rounds of additional layoffs, across-the-board pay reductions
    - culture has been completely gutted
    - poor integration of the EDS acquisition
    - awful compensation
    - lots of people "retired in place"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and end the uncertainty and get your employees engaged again. Make deep cuts of the dead wood and then rebuild.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

HP still has some of the brightest people doing interesting work.

    Cons

Salary and benefits have steadily declined relative to market for the last 10 years.
Even if you do great work, one year you get a good bonus the next year it is crap.
Your manager will always have some excuse: "the division didn't do well so there is less mony for bonuses", or "other folks are doing an even better job. etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is aimless at the top. HP has been quick to acquire new technology or make investments only to pull them when it is not immediately successful. VPs are mindless. They are more worried about hiding their mistakes than making a success their divisions successful.
