Pros

HP has great hiring policies. There are great people to work for and with. The company still has a prestigious name and is a valuable thing to have on one's resume.

Cons

What HP doesn't have is a great working environment anymore. There are major changes going on, as with many other companies. They say they support a work-life balance but they have laid off supporting staff and that makes the remaining staff responsible for multiple jobs under one title. They still have not flattened the organization enough to allow the front line people the flexibility to do their job without upper management approval.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to treat your employees like the assets they are. You took a lot of time, money, and effort to hire and train them - you need to keep them and show loyalty if you want the same in return. People count - not just the bottom line.

    Pros

Nice Facility, Good supervisors. The location was fairly convenient, and they did a good job clearing the snow in the winter.

    Cons

Their track record of promoting from within wasn't very good,, and it took 20 months to get a review that included a salary adjustment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck to you, thank you for the opportunity.

    Pros

I worked with great people. There was a lot of talent and experience, and everyone was extremely friendly.

    Cons

HP is a leviathan bureaucracy. It was a constant struggle to get the equipment and services necessary to do my job. Software development methodologies and technologies were years out-of-date (which is an eternity in the tech world), and there was serious reluctance to ever try anything new. It was impossible to work late due to campus policies (they shut off the lights at 7:00 PM, no food was available, etc.), and the reward structure wasn't close to being competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Small perks matter! Keep snacks in the fridge, be generous with e-awards. We'll work hard for you if you come our way even a little!
