Pros

Nice Facility, Good supervisors. The location was fairly convenient, and they did a good job clearing the snow in the winter.

Cons

Their track record of promoting from within wasn't very good,, and it took 20 months to get a review that included a salary adjustment.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck to you, thank you for the opportunity.

    Pros

Leader in many categories, PC's, printers, etc. HP has great people and I enjoyed the relationships I had there. You also have the opportunity to work in many different functional areas.

    Cons

In the last 10 years senior management is more concerned about their bonus than anything else. The company culture changed significantly from one that cared about employees to one that made employees feel that they were a burden to the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to figure out what they want to do. The PC group management team completely missed the tablet market, the CEO turnover is well documented, and the board of directors is completely dysfunctional. Come up with a plan and stick with it.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

HP has great hiring policies. There are great people to work for and with. The company still has a prestigious name and is a valuable thing to have on one's resume.

    Cons

What HP doesn't have is a great working environment anymore. There are major changes going on, as with many other companies. They say they support a work-life balance but they have laid off supporting staff and that makes the remaining staff responsible for multiple jobs under one title. They still have not flattened the organization enough to allow the front line people the flexibility to do their job without upper management approval.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to treat your employees like the assets they are. You took a lot of time, money, and effort to hire and train them - you need to keep them and show loyalty if you want the same in return. People count - not just the bottom line.
