I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

- If you're contract were to come to an end, you can possibly spend a year on the "bench" waiting for another opportunity to arise.
- Company promotes 90% telework.

Cons

- Management is out of touch with the clients
- Management is neither knowledgeable nor do they have the necessary skills to manage the projects given to them.
- This lack of knowledge also means a micro-management style to managing projects and employees.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Place managers in positions that actually know what the job entails and not based on time left on the bench.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

HP has some really good people with strong skill sets. The company has some good software assets which can be sold and delivered to customers. Lower level employees want to succeed and do well for customers and their immediate managers. Sales and project opportunities are available and won due to the company name recognition.

    Cons

The red tape can be over whelming at times. Some managers need to allow their people to develop into roles and increased levels of responsibilities. Too much time is spent justifying your job versus getting the job done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more focus on managing southbound (downstream) in the organization chart and not northbound (upstream) to play the politics.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Still a profitable company that is first or second in multiple sectors of the tech industry
Opportunity to move within different business units

    Cons

Hierarchical, slow moving, low employee morale and high turnover
Pay in the Bay Area is sub-par relative to other technology firms

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to fix PSG - bring design in house and fix product roadmap
