A company in the midst of a reinvention, they treat their employees well, but lack focus.

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Austin, TX

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than a year

ProsEngineers are treated well, there are avenues for promotion, and there are smart people around. The work life balance can be good, and there's more than lip service paid to the HP open door policy.

ConsThe company lacks focus, and that can be wearing. There's a general malaise about the future. It's a corporate bureaucracy, so things that should be fast aren't. The corporate structure in technology is academically oriented, so people with non-traditional backgrounds can have problems advancing.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm not sure what to do at this point but stay the course. It seems that selling PCs and spinning off printers is off the table, so our options are limited. HP needs to get better at building software.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Focus internally on innovation and invention. Create a more balanced… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
