    Pros

HP is an iconic silicon valley company which has seen many ups and downs over the years. It has been the alma mater of many great innovators, most notable Steve Jobs. It is involved in pretty much every major space in the technology industry. So there is a place for everyone here. It is a good place to work, especially for people who are getting started with their careers as there is more possibilities to explore, experiment and learn. Many areas to choose from, either technical or in administrative.

    Cons

The work environment is good for most, however the salary and benefits are in the lower end of the scale even for the experienced. As many acquisitions have been made over the last few years, it has become an amalgamation of many different start ups and therefore beginning to have a culture similar to that of start ups, without of course the benefits that come with working in a start up. The company has a very large diverse portfolio of products, however software makes up only a tiny percent of revenue. The size of the company of over 300k + makes it difficult to manage. The recent events concerning senior executives has badly damaged its reputation. The company faces major tests in the coming years, so the people who work here have a brave future.

    Advice to Management

More emphasis on software and services, spinoff PC/Printers in to a separate company.

  2. Industry innovator that needs to find its way back to greatness

    Pros

Great people - competence of rank and file is high, great diversity (of thought and ethnogratphics and demographics), tremendous opportunities to do just about any job within the company, culture of trust and respect (still, despite erosion of these values in recent years)

    Cons

Lack of long-term investments or metrics that track/enable longer-term commitments to future business opportunities. Accordingly strategic decision-making is not up to par. Executive leadership actions pressure mid-level management to prioritize short-term results rather than supporting/enabling execution of strategic imperatives.

    Advice to Management

Accelerate the course of change that Meg Whitman has started. Empower your employees to reinvigorate the innovation that they are capable of and that is the legacy of this company.
