I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Very well paid for amount/difficulty level of work, very forgiving sales environment --- at other sales companies, you are fired if you do not meet 100% of quota. At HP, they lower your quota and tell you to "try again!"

Cons

Constantly changing C-level staff, boring product lines, "kick you when you're down" sales structure. Management turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to any concerns/criticisms/questions that you may have, so don't bother asking.

Advice to Management

Be more transparent, provide a more coherent (and longer lasting) vision, and hire internally.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

HP is an iconic silicon valley company which has seen many ups and downs over the years. It has been the alma mater of many great innovators, most notable Steve Jobs. It is involved in pretty much every major space in the technology industry. So there is a place for everyone here. It is a good place to work, especially for people who are getting started with their careers as there is more possibilities to explore, experiment and learn. Many areas to choose from, either technical or in administrative.

    Cons

The work environment is good for most, however the salary and benefits are in the lower end of the scale even for the experienced. As many acquisitions have been made over the last few years, it has become an amalgamation of many different start ups and therefore beginning to have a culture similar to that of start ups, without of course the benefits that come with working in a start up. The company has a very large diverse portfolio of products, however software makes up only a tiny percent of revenue. The size of the company of over 300k + makes it difficult to manage. The recent events concerning senior executives has badly damaged its reputation. The company faces major tests in the coming years, so the people who work here have a brave future.

    Advice to Management

More emphasis on software and services, spinoff PC/Printers in to a separate company.

  2. Little strategic direction for Enterprise Services business unit

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work is satisfying, teams work well together

    Cons

Senior leadership isn't sure what to do with us! Direction changes all the time. Difficult to move to different business units. Compensation on the low side.

    Advice to Management

Look at successful companies. Decide on a direction and stick with it! Take a critical look at board members, are they really working in the best interests of the company?
