I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Great variety of positions across skill levels, experience, capabilities and industries with an ability to transition after a year of positive contributions / outcomes

Cons

Long hours, high expectations by senior leaders can become disproportionate to compensation. Self directed career advancement requires constant management and internal networking & sponsorship.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedules, laid back atmosphere, great people. It's the most comfortable job I've ever had. Employee discounts, free coffee, exercise facilities.

    Cons

Not as structured as it should be. A lot of work gets cast aside because of poor project planning. Takes many years to advance.

Work very hard, climb over your peers and fight to hang onto a job that HP wants to send offshore

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Work from home, Great People

    Cons

Revolving Door Senior Leadership, Contentious Management System that encourages employees to fight each other for limited internal funding and accolades, pay cuts, 10% of US, EMEA and Japan resources moved to low cost countries every year, firing another 10%, massive layoffs, massive cuts in R&D all have left product lines weak and partners thinking HP is not reliable or viable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Not just the once a year Voice of the Workplace, I mean listen to their ideas and where things are broken. How can HP run a company plan that changes every six weeks with cuts in one area after another. Some employees are working 16 hour days week after week so HP Leadership can pat themselves on the back about how well offshoring cost savings are working out. Ask any employee at HP about "Calibration" as the acid test of how things are going. Ask about 'Work Life Balance" if you want to dig deeper.
