I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

Pros

- Opportunities to learn something new are a plenty.
- Get a very good exposure to industry trends and standards
- Flexible work hours
- Unlimited sick days (in US)
- Very responsive HR (at least in US)

Cons

- Not enough compensation for the work put in (base pay)
- Vacation benefits really bad (0 carry over to next year)
- No more 401 k matching or ESPP
- Not enough flexibility to change teams within company
- Really long and stressful work hours
- IT support within the company not very good.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Salary structure could be improved , especially for the base pay
- scrapped benefits ( like vacation carry over, ESPP, 401k matching ) should be re-instated asap

    Pros

    Good salary. Job was secure for the first year, after that all bets were off.

    Cons

    OTE was unatainable, due to high quotas for the entire sales team. Threat of layoffs looming over the sales force all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    They need to start to motivate the sales force and stop ruling with fear.

    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

    Unfortunately, the “Pros” of working at HP have been diminishing for years. The organization went from believing the employee was the most valuable asset to “you’re lucky to have a job”.

    Cons

    Pay increases have been less than the inflation rate for years. However, both Carly Fiorina and Mark Hurd seem to be reaping massive amounts of performance bonuses, while telling the company we have to "tighten are belts."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I have been with the company (the original HP) since Oct. 1999; and have seen the erosion of a fine organization to its shell of greatness that exists today. The executive/management of HP is short sighted and acts in their best interest to reach quarterly goals. This behavior is driven by the bonus structure at all levels of management.
