I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Flexible schedules and the ability to work from home is an added value for parents. Benefits are comperable to other companies. I have worked with some great people at HP over the years both as peers and leaders.

Cons

Job codes and salaries not aligned to job performance. There is talk on alignment, however action does not seem to follow. Management not always aligned and direction and procedures. When it is time to move to a new position, you are basically on your own.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Work from home opportunities
Ok benefits, they used to be a lot better but now it is all about execs getting the bulk of the money

    Cons

Too many re-orgs - almost impossible to be productive with 2-3 a year
Interdepartmental fighting happening at all levels, especially upper mgmt
Long hours working 60 hrs + a week only to face impending layoffs every quarter

The place is a pressure cooker right now because the business is circling the drain. Or at the very least about to bought and/or broken up. When that happens even more than the 30k jobs will be lost.
This descent to the bottom has been in the works for years and upper mgmt deserves every scrape & burn they get from it - the hard working people on the front lines do not though and that is the sad part.
Bottom line: if you are thinking about joining HP right now (2013) DON'T. Unless you have no other options and then I would plan to get out as fast as you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep going with your "group think" and fall to the bottom with the company you have destroyed in less than a decade.
