I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Incredibly smart, talented and positive people who are doing their best to make HP successful. Great opportunities to work globally. Very good salary and benefits, especially at the management level.

Cons

Lots of turnover and reorganizations at the upper management level, resulting in lots of churn on priorities, projects and what people should focus on. Hard to stay positive with all of the negative press - but that should lessen as HP's performance starts to improve.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be humble, listen to the employees that know what's going on at the operational level, and bring back sincere employee engagement best practices.

    Pros

    I've learned the art of lying, deceit and how to mistreat a human being. i can lie with a straight face, show no emotion for mankind.

    Cons

    the pay is horrible, they don't tell you anything until the last minute, management is clueless, they tell you you are wrong, but don't offer a solution. use and abuse the good employees while the slackers get raises and promotions

    get rid of everyone and start over

    Pros

    Potential to be great! Access to lots of opportunities within the company. Senior leadership does seem to be getting better.

    Cons

    Salary is terrible. They can't keep talent because they won't pay market rates. Benefits are expensive for such a large company. The company mission can be very cloudy that leaves employees guessing which way to go. Massive turnover and workforce reductions constant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pick your market, focus there and let the employees know. Focus on keeping talent and growing it with the company, as opposed to watching good people walk out the door due to ridged HR policies that force people to leave for greener pastures. You want loyalty? Pay your employees. Concentrate on R&D not just buying up companies.
