I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (more than 3 years)

Pros

Excellent communication from upper management, open door policy and they listened and implemented worker-suggested changes. Accomplisments were recognized on paper, publically and monetarily with bonuses and gift cards. Excellent benefits package.

Cons

401(k) could have more choices for risk-takers like myself. After three works of working for H-P, I was switched to an EDS employee (with EDS as a subsidary of H-P), with management and benefit changes. I wouild have preferred to stay as an H-P employee

    Pros

    Big company provides many chances to try out new positions or work experiences. Flexible hours and work locations. New executives are turning the company in the right direction.

    Cons

    Bureaucratic when it comes to company wide strategy and direction. Past decade has been entirely metric driven, not people driven. Internal IT is often worried about running a clean project not getting the internal customer the needed result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The swing you are making to engage the employee and restore a great workplace is great. Keep that ball rolling!
