    Pros

    - Good salary for the work
    - Flexible with scheduling and working odd hours if desired
    - They tried to promote professional development with a mentor program

    Cons

    - Very little involvement from management when it comes to evaluating work.
    - It was difficult to see how my work actually contributed to the success of the company
    - Rarely was the work honestly challenging or motivating
    - I could not see myself happy with any position in the company. The entire culture just felt stale, uninspired, and unexciting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Get involved with employee's work
    - Provide feedback
    - Convey the 'big picture' to employees so they know how they contribute to the company's success

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

The company is still filled with good people, flexible work hours with options to work from home in many circumstances.

    Cons

The company clearly has changed since the days of Bill and Dave. The vision of the original founders of starting with great people, treating them well, giving them good direction but wide latitude, making them responsible for their results but, at the same time, giving them wide latitude is gone. This was Bill and Dave's strategy of how to create a good business because they assumed that with this recipe, good things would happen, the company would make money, and things would be pretty decent.

This was found lacking by the latest management as it led to some inefficiencies and excesses. Now the company is run from a spreadsheet that optimizes the bottom line. Workers are resources to be optimized, a burden in some instances (ex: if in overpaid countries like the US), simply necessary components at best. The true strength of the company is in the intelligence of the management which is why their pay skyrockets while the worker bee sees theirs depressed. It's a change in philosophy that is very painful for the worker who has experienced otherwise. That's not to say this isn't common throughout the industry nor that it won't be successful. Maybe it will turn out to be superior from a business success metric, but it sure is painful to be one of the cogs in this wheel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Running the company strictly from the bottom line may be necessary, but if there is another way to be successful while creating a work environment for employees you are proud of, wouldn't that be a better legacy to leave?
