    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people. Easily the most professional and hard-working employees I've had the pleasure to work with. HP is also good at emphasizing work/life balance at the corporate level (although many managers don't follow the lead)

    Cons

The employees are always looking over their shoulders waiting to get laid off. The raises have not been good for a decade, but the bonuses can be good. Executives talk about recognition plans, but anything money-related never trickles down to the department level. Since Meg joined the company, shares are good and stockholders are happy, but it is clear that accountants are running the company. Long time employees are disappearing and being replaced with newer employees. Benefits are mediocre and seem to get worse every year. No training is budgeted, no mentoring is available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow decisions to be made at a lower level, let business executives run their businesses without obstructions and red tape. Give the employees raises--don't just rely on bonuses. It makes them feel more stable and appreciated
