I have been working at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (more than a year)

Pros

Great place to work with very talented people and a great management team. This company is probably one of the best places to work.

Cons

Sometimes globally dispersed teams can be challenging in terms of team meetings. However, this can also act as a great asset because one can have 24x7 development.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Somewhat stable due to enormous size.

    Decent benefits.

    Lots of products to sell.

    Longstanding reputation.

    Name recognition.

    Cons

To get a raise you have to quit first.

Negative reputation with customers and resellers.

    Quota changes every quarter.

    No respect from managers.

Horrible websites for self service benefits and documentation downloads.

Listen to employees complaints and recommendations instead of constantly asking for surveys but not responding to issues exposed in those surveys.

Encourage excellent customer service and reward customer satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect and retain the talent in house. Promote from within instead of forcing employees to either quit or threaten to quit before considering salary increases.

Encourage training courses to keep employees current. Provide training for employees to maintain technical edge.

Stand behind employees and follow through on commitments.
