Pros

Flexible work environment; able to work from home at my own discretion. Compensation is amongst the leaders, not the highest but not the lowest. Many career opportunities Great people

Cons

Management driven primarily on the numbers, and less on the people. This is a little shortsighted as people are your #1 asset, and without their motivations the numbers will fall. Reward and recognition programs needs overhauled. There is little motivation for employees outside of sales to give extra effort when there are no raises or rewards.

Advice to Management

Give more back to the people, and deliver on the people promise. Ranting about numbers all day does nothing for company morale.

    Pros

Hewlett Packard Company is a decent place to work, with good benefits and fair compensation. One benefit is the company is generally very supportive of employees and their personal needs. If you need to take a leave or some time off, they are supportive.

    Cons

Being a very very large company, it is very easy to feel like a cog in a wheel at HP. Ther seems to still be a lot of dead eight and way too much bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Try to create small teams that can bond together and feel like they can achieve things they put their collective minds to.

    Pros

Their hiring standards are fairly low, but there's not many new hires over the last few years. Their performance reviews are meaningless. My manager told one top performing employee that it was his turn to get the bad review because they have a quota where have to give some minimum number of bad reviews.

    Cons

Pay cuts and furlows are management's primary tool to shave costs. Most people I know that get laid off are happier.

    Advice to Management

When the economy does pick up, nobody will continue to work there that can find employment anywhere else. In other words, HP will find that it is staffed with the drags of the IT world.
