Pros

*Teleworking was a norm (now being discouraged) *Some very bright, hardworking people *Salaries can be competitive

Cons

*Management can be ever-changing, both in personnel and in direction *Those who rise to the top can be old-fashioned and stodgy about technology *Layoffs and outsourcing can affect even top-performing teams

Advice to Management

Take a hard look at whether the managers you think are great are simply great at managing up. Those in the trenches know who's being effective and who isn't. Really listen to those Voice of the Workforce surveys and then act on them. Not all value can be found in spreadsheets.

    Decent Pay, Great Resume builder, Great Co workers, Diverse environment

    Cons

    Unorganized, discrimination, too many layoffs

    Advice to Management

    What is the point of knocking non experienced computer people down if this is a place where experience should be built? Stay humble and remember you had to start from somewhere as well.

    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great reputation and excellent enterprise server products.

    Cons

    Some ridiculously bad managers exist. Six month performance reviews are not being done. Some internal transfers are 'bait & switch'. Employee applies to open requisition one level higher, is accepted, and transferred. After transfer, realizes it was completed on a completely different job requisition as a lateral transfer with no promotion. Some employees have seen 1% pay increase in over 3 years. Some managers have 75 to 100 direct reports and don't initiate contact for months.

    Advice to Management

    Stop cheerleading. Identify and reward the performing employees, before they leave. HP still has heartburn & indigestion with EDS. The cultural & procedural differences between the traditional HP side and the EDS side are extreme; sell EDS.
