I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Some great and hard working people. Training resources. Good benefits.

Cons

No career advancement, no overtime, no good tools, lots of layoffs. Management only cares about "their favorite team members" and not about the rest of the employees.

Lots of disrespect among team colleagues but management doesn't care.

Management sets poor examples of discipline (e.g. arrive late and leave early, watch internet, take training all day, aggressive attitude and language at all times).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring about all employees and less about your own agendas.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Huge company, with many job categories. Management and Senior execs encourage employees to spread themselves around and find what role/organization they are most interested in. The opportunity to broaden your skills is always available and there are constant internal career fairs to familiarize yourself with other teams and groups and be aware of potential job openings.

    Cons

Huge company, it can be hard to make a name for yourself and connect with your senior leadership. Also, the system of recognition and reward for outstanding work is not quite up to par.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of recognizing and rewarding your employees. Also be more accessible.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

New CEO has brought back a management culture that tries to take care of it's people. The prior Hurd regime found every drop of blood to squeeze out of it's workforce. The company faces a long term turnaround and has made some progress but still has a ways to go. It is making investments in it's people- especially in learning & development, talent management, and in a variety of programs to improve employee engagement.

    Cons

Like any company there are good and not so good managers. Middle management is still under significant pressure, so expectations are high. Expect a long work day, especially in global jobs. Also as you would expect company bonuses fluctuate with company performance and this year has not been great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more candid on business conditions. Don't sugar coat the internal earnings messages.
