Pros

Hewlett Packard is a leader in its field.
Ability in some positions to be privy to technologies prior to public release.
Casual dress code.

Cons

- Pay cuts
    - Layoffs
    - Unrealistic expectations without appropriate compensation.
(Ex: A group of 18 have 8 left following a layoff. All work is divided between the "lucky ones", none get raises for taking on more than twice their previous workload. All are too scared to ask for one.)
    - Poor treatment of contract employees by management.
(Ex: Average of 60hrs work per person. Overtime was cut, workload continued to grow. Hiring new employees request rejected. Request overtime = poor use of time management = terminated. Complete OT work for free = management reports understated budget requirements = next year more work, less people. Then contractors get pay cuts ranging 10% - 25%. This is in contrast to HP employee's cuts of 2.5% - 5%)
    - No raise in 3 of 3 years
    - Lack of communication by management.
    - Lack of respect by management.
    - One manager was quoted to say "the work performed in the lab could be completed by trained monkeys".
    - New employee training is comprised of getting thrown in the pool; sink or swim.

    Pros

The discounts on Hewlett Packard merchandise. It is a well known company. The company does offer full benefits package for employees.

    Cons

The job you have may leave you at any time. Hewlett Packard does a lot of international outsourcing. This means less people have jobs in the U.S.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is counterproductive to have massive layoffs. In the short run you may increase your profits. In the long run you will have less consumers to buy your products.
