I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Great employees, very smart people, some flexibility in when you work your hours if you get your job done (see WW comment below), people doing the day-to-day work still retain an incredible passion for doing the right thing for the business

Cons

Management's behaviors do not align with their words, creating enormous amounts of distrust. Shift in management actions is resulting in short-term decisions with short-term payoffs with disregard for med-long term thinking. I've witnessed this being discussed openly on multiple occasions and then simply ignored. Definitely a worldwide company; be prepared to be on 6 am calls with Europe and 9 pm calls with India if people you work with are located there.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to improve trust in order to get this back to being a great company. If there is bad news, talk about it openly - employees can handle it. Saying everything is good and laying people off creates incredible amounts of distrust.

HP was excellent in the 90s but faded as numerous poor CEO selections diluted its culture and benefits thus stock value

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Compensation is fair for the HP sites in remote areas but not for HP sites in major cities like Bay Area. Work life balance still possible if you choose jobs carefully. Good people as always to work with.

    Cons

Discontinuation of its lucrative pension plan. Reduction of benefits. Poor selection of CEO recently that lead to low value stock options.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More differentiation in compensation for performance

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
