I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Wonderful place to learn, grow and leave.

Cons

Career advancements need to happen outside of the company. If advancements are offered and accepted, HR will not match the pay to the current market value or even an internal pay scale.

Advice to Management

Learn to act like a startup again. Create pockets of innovation that are not mired in the corporate bureaucracy that hinders current growth and get back to the core DNA that was infused into "The HP Way".

    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Internal training opportunities are varied and cover a wide range of technical subjects. Up until recently they had great opportunities to work from home.

    Cons

    People care are one of the lower priorities of this company. Although you read in the paper how well the company has been doing or have beaten quarterly expectations - work force reductions continue to be the focus. Currently they are trying their best to lay off higher, more experienced professionals and replace them with entry level personnel. The environment is bad - people are constantly worried about their job - and with good reason.

    Advice to Management

    Consider there are more components to running a company than profits. If you have an environment that beats down the employee - the best will leave and mediocracy will end up ruling the day. Then there is the client side - again if you're only focused on $ the entry level resource is not going to be the business partner that the experienced resource is ... this is currently causing us to lose accounts all together.
