Financial diligence has returned; just needs to treat employees better.

Current Employee - Systems / Software Engineer VI  in  Roseville, CA
Current Employee - Systems / Software Engineer VI in Roseville, CA

    Pros

Working at a company whose products lead the industry, and continues to develop industry-leading products.
Many of the the "HP Way" practices are still alive - open door policy, flexible schedules, telecommuting, etc.
My colleagues are some of the brightest and most talented people I know. It really is a pleasure to work with such a high-powered team.

    Cons

Working at a company whose benefits/compensation/treatment of employees seeks to "be in line with the industry", as opposed to leading the industry.
Internal politics between former HP and Compaq organizations are still a struggle, especially where product lines overlap or need to leverage and unify.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are your greatest asset. Treat them that way. Cutting costs to maintain financial solvency is good, but it can do more harm than good when it impacts morale. Employees don't like seeing email after email telling them benefits have been reduced or asking them to give up more.

Current Employee - Account Manager  in  Washington, DC
Current Employee - Account Manager in Washington, DC

    Pros

    There's great company recognition
The benefits still slightly better than competitors
Large IT partnership gives you opportunities for limited training
There are opportunities for career advancement/career field if you are inclined to do so.

    Cons

There's a "race to the middle" regarding employee pay and benefits. They were close to being industry leading.
Lots of "required" training for consultants, but never a budget to get it to them. How is that possible in a 100 billion dollar company?
There seems to be a shift away from customer focus

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's still a great place to work, but some of the management structure needs to be replaced in order to re-focus on the customer.

There's no budget for required training.
