Pros

Working at HP can be a great thing. The sky is the limit and the tech growth path goes all the way to the top. You definitely won't feel forced into management just to progress. Lots of jobs and good compensation and benefits. HP also values work-life balance. If you are a high performer you will be rewarded with Pay for Performance incentives.

Cons

Many people feel lost at such a large company. Some teams are nimble, but in general I feel HP is a large ship. It moves slowly.

Advice to Management

Continue hiring great people. Make sure you treat them fairly and continue using Pay for Performance to incent the workforce.

Proud to work for HP the technology company, frustrated by HP the corporate entity.

    Pros

Breadth of product and services, and the potential for integration. Scale. Leading or competitive in each chosen market. Current executive team appears to have the correct business acumen and attitude to lead HP to a stronger position.

    Cons

Paramount focus on cost, to the detriment of quality. Reckless elimination of first-world employees, with little to no warning. Delusional belief in the ability to create equivalent engineering capabilities in low-labor-cost areas. Consistent disingenuity or vapid propaganda in internal communications. Personally, I find abhorrent most corporate positions on social and political issues.

    Advice to Management

Management appears unwavering on all issues of significance. There is no point in providing feedback.

    Pros

People; flexibility; Bill & Dave's legacy

    Cons

Senior management make very poor long-term, strategic decisions and the individual contributors bear all of the pain of the poor decisions.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to VOW feedback. Pay better than market rate to retain great employees. Do away with antiquated concepts like co-location when you have access to the most talented people where ever they happen to live.
