Current Employee - Software Engineer (QA) in Houston, TX
Current Employee - Software Engineer (QA) in Houston, TX

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Breadth of product and services, and the potential for integration. Scale. Leading or competitive in each chosen market. Current executive team appears to have the correct business acumen and attitude to lead HP to a stronger position.

Cons

Paramount focus on cost, to the detriment of quality. Reckless elimination of first-world employees, with little to no warning. Delusional belief in the ability to create equivalent engineering capabilities in low-labor-cost areas. Consistent disingenuity or vapid propaganda in internal communications.

Personally, I find abhorrent most corporate positions on social and political issues.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management appears unwavering on all issues of significance. There is no point in providing feedback.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    You can work from home

    Cons

They do not promote from within. Management frequently raves about new managers brought in from outside the company, as if nobody within the company could have filled the role. Which makes sense, they do not develop personnel. Travel and training were eliminated to reduce costs. All salaries were cut 10% to make numbers which enabled Senior Management to receive over $100 million in bonuses. Cutting 50,000 jobs over 2 year period. Wrote off $8 billion in bad investments in 2 successive quarters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    value Employees.

    Pros

    Very Smart & Diligent co-workers
    Good working office atmosphere

    Cons

No respect for contributions from the employees
Little/No pay raise for increasing cost of living
    No support for career goals
Fire high performers at high cost locations and replace them with low cost performers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You cannot turn around the company with low cost (middle/low) performers or college hire. You get what you paid for.
