Current Employee - Order Coordinator in Palo Alto, CA

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

HP has a great work life balance with understanding challenges with kids, doctor appts. You can leave the office for doctor/dentist appt without taking time off. Benefits are good.

Cons

Life at HP is changing. No more working at home. Meg wants everyone in the office but with the eventual move to Palo Alto there isn't enough space. So 70% of people will have cubes and the others will find a focus booth. Does not make sense if the reason to have everyone in is to collaborate.

No pay increase with a job promotion. Pay is not competitive with other companies.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Short commute, large campus with inside connected walkway, garage parking

    Cons

Own unfriendly and hostile (back stabbing, credit stealing from project managers) work environment (racial and seniority bias), incompetent engineering managers with seniority, bad meeting times/delayed and misunderstood email responses with non-English speaking oversea teams, uncooperative cross functional teams (don't care attitude contractor and lots of them there), bad/dangerous parking environment (narrow lane and shared with manufacturing contractors), over worked/under paid and asking for additional help would not be resolved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The engineering managers and project managers need to be sympathetic and helpful to the hard working engineers. They need to support the engineers without be opinionated and judgment biased. Fire those who are all talk (hot air) and keep all the teams under control.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Wonderful hard working people. The team work within our group was unsurpassed and led to many successes for the company.

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement since the company is either in lay off mode or cost cutting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Morale within middle management was at an all time low when I left the company. The message from upper management is cut, layoff ....repeat. Makes for a dysfunctional organization.
