I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Dedicated and talented employees who push and deliver results in spite of limitations. Take healthy risks with innovation at forefront.

Cons

Work-life balance and progress are constrained raising concerns about talent "burn out" and market gains.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take risks to promote the good ideas of solid visionary talent working at any level - survey the grass roots. Check those who would strip away common sense wins for short sighted and fleeting cost reductions.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Good people (at least the normal humans that you work with in the trenches--once you become a manager, they take away your humanity card).

    Cons

No loyalty to employees. No ability to move up (in the US, anyways). No tuition reimbursement. They are forcing employees to come back into the office even if your entire team is spread throughout the world. Middle and upper management consists of bean counters who have no clue about innovation and cutting edge technology. HP is getting rid of all their in-house engineers and is acquiring starts up's because they no longer know how to innovate from within. This might be a good long term strategy, but it's sad to see the company that started innovation in silicon valley simply become another behemoth bureaucratic bloated acquisition engine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now that you've outsourced all of your engineering to Chinese companies, good luck counting those beans!

    Pros

Strongly Ethical Leadership at all levels.
Progressive Management that 'reads' the writing on the wall well.
    Collaborative work culture.
Strong Leadership support for the right talent.

    Cons

Cost pressures are tremendous. Salary hikes are challenged for an extended period.
Needs to balance investment vs cost control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on Transformation undertaken in 2012. It's working.
