I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great work environment and benefits. Friendly people with great experience. Campus is large and beautiful. Easy to shift between teams and experience a large variety of complex projects.

Cons

It is a large company. A company that tends to try and solve every problem by adding more layers of approvals, paperwork, and shutdowns then wonders why it can't keep up with other companies. Also loves to solve budget problems by cutting workforce then getting even more perplexed on why they are moving slower.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have an incredibly talented and powerful workforce. Give them the power to win! This means you have to take some risks but your people are very capable of minimizing these risks and exceeding expectations. Your release processes are so outdated, overprotective, and sometimes just plain absurd that none of your teams can reach their potential.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Reasonable autonomy to get the work done --

    Cons

Too often mixed messages from client re: type of work needed. Also, suspicion that they leveraged work product internally rather than respecting intellectual property. One likes transparency with management -- another key component of trust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat vendors and consultants better. A vendor/corporate relationship of needs must be based on trust. When either party feels it has been abused, that relationship breaks down and the model simply doesn't work --
