Pros

They provide great benefits and good pay.

Cons

No stability. I worked for HP for 12 years and I was a very good employee. The company outsourced my position to another country because it was cheaper which is what they are doing too many of their departments. Their employees have been loyal but the company does not return the favor. They use to be one of the best companies to work for and they once had great integrity, but they have lost their way.

Advice to Management

Quit outsourcing to other countries. It hurts the employees, the company and most of all the customers.

    Pros

Loved the people I worked with. Lots of opportunities to move around.

    Cons

Inept management. Constantly restructuring and downsizing. Doing away with remote - flexible work environment - which was one of the biggest draws to several telecommuters.

    Pros

The high majority of the people at HP are wonderful to work with. There is a rich blend of international cultures that unite around one purpose. HP has a loyal customer base on the enterprise side and they are rooting for HP to come back. They have the financial means, channels, and critical mass to be aggressive in the market with new products.

    Cons

The company has gone away true talent management and looking to shift valuable resources from one part of the company to another. The practice is simply to purge those in the wrong place and replace with people outside of HP in a different location who may or may not fit into the culture all to theoretically save a $. What is forgotten is the true hidden cost of this strategy and the impact it is having on the internal core culture of the company.

    Advice to Management

Quit going through the motions with Talent Management and aggressively plan out how to retrain and skills the workforce that has the right cultural fit into the new growing areas of the company.

Pick a strategy and see it through. Far too often HP has excellent ideas prior to a competitor but thinks too tactically (in the current fiscal year) and under invests in the idea. Competitors follow but move more aggressively and take the market.
