I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

Pros

Fast paced and engaging, cutting age HR planning and techniques, ability to learn and take on as much as desired - go broad or go deep within HR arena is all available

Cons

Overloaded HR business partners and HR employees, high HR to manager ratio, good support to hi-level managers by HR but little support available to supervisors and lower level people managers

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be aware of the trade-off of such high HR to manager ratios, be aware of increasing general employee attrition US wide as economy improves due to salary cuts, benefit changes etc.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Former EDS employees were/are very loyal ,dedicated and very intelligent people with the customer needs always top of mind. They have a fairly competitve benefits package.

    Cons

Unfortunately, Mark Hurd cares about acquiring companies and then laying off 40,000 people to try and make his numbers. That can be difficult when you are trying to serve the clients needs.
You don't even know if you or your client will be there from day to day.
We need compassionate CEO's who care about the people and the clients as they are the one's paying his salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your core business and keep your expertise otherwise you will have no intellectual capital left to serve anyone.

A good place to get paid and relax (a good break) for 1 year or so!

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Good work-life balance, you can always work from home, bosses don't come office either. You just log on at home, and do your own stuff. They can't retrench you coz there is no probation when you joined, and they need 1 year before they can do their appraisal. So, good place to rot! =) If they ask you to accept voluntary pay cut, don't accept. What can they do? They don't track leave, so don't apply for leave in the system! Do it before u want to resign. You can walk off and HP still needs to pay you...

    Cons

After 1 to 2 years, you must be prepared to leave. Go find another job. Else by staying in HP, you will not learn anything, no one cares, no increment, no career, no stability, poor benefits and the things in HP are in total mess. Why bother to clean up when it is forever in mess, and you are leaving anyway...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had a great rest and really appreciates the paid time out I had! Really enjoyed it! Great job!
