Pros

some of the projects have work from home option when required
the flexibility of choosing the time - depending on the project needs is good
the shut down during christmas and new year is appreciated
overall good place to work

Cons

Not much deep dive into technical areas
most of the processes are old
much of the internal projects do not have knowledge on customer aspects known

Advice to Management

good brand - but the negativity on the sacking needs to be removed. In India security to the job is much more important than the brand.

    Pros

Big company, so if you know the right people or have good luck you can find some good opportunities.

    Cons

I joined 8 years ago and never even had an inflation based salary increase. This is despite taking on 4 new roles, always been rated in the top category and taking 2 forced pay cuts.

In fact I found out the other day that I earn less than new graduates entering the company!

Frustratingly the red tape in HP is so bad that to get a salary correction you have to receive a job offer from another company and be a top rated employee. They will not even consider a salary correction for a totally new role/promotion in HP.

    Advice to Management

Share price is important, but so are your employees. We're going to lose all of the top performers and good talent very quickly unless we can maintain competetive salaries. Cut out more of the dead wood that are paid way to much, have been around for years and just hiding away waiting for the next round of redudancies. Use this money to find your high performers who are below market salary.

I would also recommend a focus of R&D growth as A&M only go so far to bring in fresh ideas/products. HP need to start leading the technologies not following 1 year behind.

Finally I would focus as Mark used to on profitability. We still have a long way to go to catch up on IBM, apple, google market cap, eps etc. But rather than cutting cost out of the employee teams, re focus the cost cutting directly on the red tape and the teams that don't add value/profit.
