Pros

The people are top tier and work well as a team across functions and entities. People are always willing to help you out.

Cons

The performance ranking / rating system forces some people into the bottom categories even if all objectives have been met or exceeded. Over the past decade there has been a constant stream of benefit and salary takeaways, especially during the Mark Hurd regime. They contibute some 401k matching if company finacial results are good enough. If you need a drink of water, bring your own cup - nothing is provided. Everyone's personal financial position is falling. No immediate increase in salary when you get promoted. Cubicles are being downsized and a large percentage of people are being forced to work from home with no reimbursements for phone or internet connection expenses. Upper management bonuses have grown wildly while the rank an file has been losing ground. I'd have to work over 1,100 years at my current salary to match Mark Hurd's compensation over the past three years, and that's prior to his massive exit package - add another 400 years or so for that.

Advice to Management

Treat employees as the asset they are instead of a "cost of the workforce" expense to be minimized. Reduce the disparity in rewards between upper management and the rank & file.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

having a job in the Sacramento area work-life balance and flexible schedule

    Cons

the work-life balanance and flex schedule is a pro but it will bite you in your evaluation if you use it often. poor management. a lot of yes-people. stock options hogged by upper mgmt, directors and up bad cafeteria, cheaper to buy outside too much work, good people who leave are not replaced declining benefits 401k matching tied to company performance pension plan suspended no espp bad work environment, open area 3 ft high cubicles like those on TV

    Advice to Management

HP is on a downhill since Carly Fiorina. Everyone though Carly was bad, Hurd is 3x worse. All Hurd did is make the rich richer, filthy rich to be exact. As what I said, HP is only good if you dont have a job.

    Pros

Interesting to work for a market leader Learn how large corporation works Good for resume branding Large community of people to work with and get to know Although people complain about expenses and budgets, working for smaller companies makes HP look good

    Cons

Management indifference to employees Lack of innovation lately Mark Hurd's conquest to cut costs even if it means lack of innovation and quality Voice of Workforce survey: most of US group indicated they would leave and take a job at another company for similar or less pay

    Advice to Management

What ever happened to the HP Slate introduced at CES in January 2010? When are employees going to get thier 5% back or is it gone forever?
