I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

Pros

Name recognition opens a lot of doors. Some degree of stability in an otherwise challenging environment.

Cons

Total compensation is down over 30% from 2008. Salray cuts, car expenses, 401K

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less focus on month-to-month results, more focus on customers would pay off in long run. Restore salary cuts.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Very talented people around the world. The fundamentals of company are sound - for today. The company has a strong portfolio of products and excellent channel strengths.

    Cons

Most of the senior management has been imported from elsewhere and spends precious time learning the businesses, customers, markets and technology. There is too much time spent responding real time to filling out a constant stream of requests for the same information processed a multitude of ways to appease people who don't know what they are looking for, looking at or what to do with. Absurd and wasteful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time for a gut check at the board level. You should state your intent for the company - is it to develop new businesses and markets through internal investment and development and do you have the stomach, patience and skills to nurture? Or is it to continue the acquire, cut costs, drive revenue? Either way, decide and communicate and live with the outcome. It is sad to think the board and executive team can accept a check from a company that has such an honored past.
