I worked at Hewlett-Packard

Pros

excellent health, vision, dental benefits. brand recognition. good community service/philanthropy department.

Cons

such a huge company that it's hard to create environments and/or events that motivate employees

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to do team building/all hands that motivate employees; all the empty cubicles...if your employees are telecommuting, get rid of the cubicle. the empty cubicles damper the work atmosphere.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

With a few exceptions, well trained and supportive first level managers. Many opportunities to do different jobs at the same location. Necessary tools and supplies are readily available.

    Cons

As the manager level increases, they become totally focused on obeying top-down directives without question or push back. Senior management is completely isolated from employee concerns. Raises have been small to non-existent recently. Cost cutting, often at the expense of product quality and employee benefits, has been the rule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to treat employees like they matter again. For a start, they should try acting on Hewlett's & Packard's management philosophy instead of just mouthing the words.
