Pros

The Jensen Beach shelter runs fairly smoothly and both the employees and clients are shown respect. Some employees are compassionate and family-like.

Cons

The Vero Beach shelter is disorganized and constantly running on emergency-mode. The staff is not well trained or supported. The management is overwhelmed and overpowering.

Advice to Management

The staff roles need to be better defined. The child care staff needs better training. The management needs to respect the roles of workers and not assume they know everything.

    Pros

Help kids and teens that has been abused, neglected, tramautized by helping them make better choices in life. Serving as a role model for them. De-escalating behaviors and debriefing. Spending time getting to know each kid/teen and their personality so you can better help them.

    Cons

No structure enforced by upper management. Not enough time to spend with each kid/teen as far as mentoring them. Understaffed and an imbalanced in schedules (overworking some individuals). Violent activity that can occur. Staff and management not remembering that these kids/teens live there and this is their home not, that this is just a job.

    Advice to Management

Structure needs to be enforced by you. Do not make hasty decisions until the staff that is working with the kids/teens have their input. A lot of people in management needs extra training on how to speak to their staff and how to be professional at all times. And also, those who are the root of the problems, please get rid of them, they are infecting the rest of the staff.
