I worked at Hill International full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Most offices grant staff a high degree of independence to perform the work. This is great for self starters who do not need to be micro-managed.

Cons

Lack of corporate performance standards can be frustrated as the efforts to provide shared resources between offices can lead to having to re-create work product prototypes that may exist elsewhere.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strive to greater integrate corporate standards.

    Pros

Challenging projects, supportive management, team, IT infrastructure, ERP system, clear procedures, fair staff evaluations, benefits, working conditions

    Cons

Definitely, there are pros and cons, but an optimistic employee would never say that there is a problem without a solution. Even if takes time, any con can be changed to a pro.

Outside of Corporate HQ, you are just a number!

I worked at Hill International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

decent (albeit impersonal) technical support, large network of project resources across the company

    Cons

Another review described Hill International as a "NYSE-listed Mom and Pop company" and I would agree. This is not a good place to grow a career. Hill International has grown largely through acquisitions and as a result there is an inconsistent corporate culture. If you are not a member of the founding family, do not work at the corporate HQ or are below the level of Sr. VP, do not expect your contributions to be recognized. To a large extent, Hill International largely operates as a staffing company hiring people for jobs and letting them go when the job is done. No bonuses below the VP level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A significant reorganization is needed to reduce unproductive internal competition among Sr. VP "warlords" and focus on success of practice areas across the company. Slow down acquisitions to focus on quality rather than quantity. Work on a consistent client-focused culture that will improve repeat business and encourage sharing of best practices across the company. Recognize contributions of employees as trusted professionals. Ensure that senior management connects with the field outside of the corporate headquarters.
