I have been working at Hill & Knowlton

    Pros

Smart colleagues -- everyone seems to have an interesting professional past and strong educational background.
Clients are interesting and mostly top tier clients. It's nice to say who you work for and whose business you have helped change or made a difference in. The opportunities are there if you work for them -- you really can create your own path but you do have to ask for it. Things change quickly so if you don't like what you're working on now, just wait a few months -- it will likely be different. Agency life is fast-paced and it is great for those who thrive on it.

    Cons

You have to be comfortable with agency life -- there's no map or training, everyone is feeling their way and every client is different. This is not for everyone. The environment is quiet and studious -- oftentimes new junior staff are shocked by this, as they are expecting a dynamic, bustling PR atmosphere. It's busy so people are working, not gabbing about the weekend or going for martini lunches. Billable hours rule here, keep your utilization up and you're fine -- but you will be questioned if it's down. I think the amount of vacation days are too few -- they should have a PTO system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be cognizant that you are asking mid-level and junior staff to work above their level and reward them for it. Currently no bonuses below the VP level. I also think they should use the PTO system rather than vacation/sick/personal. Currently, the system forces healthy people to call in sick if they want the same amount of days off as everyone else.
