Mediocre talent meeting the status quo

Current Employee - Senior Manager  in  Dallas, TX
Current Employee - Senior Manager in Dallas, TX

Pros

Initiative is generally recognized and rewarded
Company is willing to make investments where appropriate
Company can leverage a big name even though they are small
Leadership generally reactive to employee needs (seems to be changing)
Travel is usually accomodating (travel if you want or stay local if you want)
Nice winter holiday break (office shuts down for at least a week)
Generally turns down staff augmentation work unless very strategic

Cons

Horribly corrupt salary bands (ex: some SC salaries > some SM salaries)
Poor total compensation (little/no bonus, no 401K match, zero 2010 raises)
Out of touch senior leadership that also plays favorites
Messed up culture born from growth by acquisition with an inability to grow organtically
Large inconsistencies between geographies

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Almost every con I listed can be attributed to growth by acquisition. We are a big melting pot of different organizations, each with its own salaries and cultures. Perhaps Hitachi Consulting needs to put the brakes on fast growth and establish a consistent message, strategy, and culture before trying to grow rapidly.

Wonderful people, not so wonderful comp

Current Employee - Senior Consultant in Seattle, WA

    Pros

    - Great people - smart, fun, easy to work with
    - Strong emphasis on culture
    - Interesting opportunities and clients
    - Very open about feedback and growth
    - Structured career development program
I absolutely love the people I work with. They are intelligent, driven and really fun! It makes a hard job easier knowing that I'm coming in to work with this team. They have been great about giving time off for personal stuff - dr appts, etc.

    Cons

    - Comp comp comp. No raise for 2.5 years... come on
    - Sick days included as your vacation days boo
    - A little hard to know where you fit sometimes in terms of solutions & functions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your people well. If you can afford to make acquisitions & hire that many new Cs & SCs, then you should be able to compensate the people that you already have, and that have supported the company through some tough times. We all took one for the team (no raises) and now you need to show us we're appreciated members of the team.

Current Employee - Senior Consultant in Denver, CO

    Pros

Opportunities to try different types of projects
    Many opportunities for training/learning
    Great people to work with

    Cons

At times (depending on project assignment), work/life balance can be difficult
Across all of our locations, levels are not equal (meaning a Senior Consultant in one location doesn't have the same core skills as a Senior Consultant in another location)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep lines of communication open
