I have been working at Hobart full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

9-5 job with 9-5 mentality. Office is a ghost town by 5:30pm. Hobart is the market leader but quickly losing share. Complacency is acceptable. Sometimes they even sell ground beef from the test labs in 5 lb. blocks.

    Cons

There are many future pensioners that are extremely protectionist. New thinking is discouraged. Idealists, social entreprise leaders and recent graduates do NOT FIT in here. Hobart is weak in the global marketplace and has failed to adapt product line to emerging markets. They have been banking on their market leadership to take them through the next decade. Troy is not a place to attract an educated talent pool interested in diving into international competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversity - you need this but it should be INCLUSION. Your managers are a homogeneous group and that is a weakness.

Sustainability - This should not be on the website. Start by recycling paper in your offices. There is an index that tracks this for Dow stocks and you will not be able keep up.

Website & Social media - Outdated and missing a lot of relevant information.

Release more than 1 product in 5 years in every group or you will get crushed. End of life on legacy equipment-- its called planned obsolescence and it works. Cease supporting 20 year old products on the secondary market its a lost cause.

Get a real orientation program and have it organized day one. Move out of Troy, OH it is not attractive to millennials. Don't have remote leadership.

Learn to tap local universities for interns to handle cyclical workload increases. Train your managers.
