I have been working at Hobsons full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Colleagues are okay to work with

Cons

Engineering management in Arlington is extremely immature. In fact I can go to the length of saying that there are discriminatory practices (based on race and ethnicity). Everyone knows this, however as you know that the brunt of it is faced by only a few. Good people left the company because of such practices

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't know what to say as you wouldn't fire the middle management and they will continue effing up the company in time

I have been working at Hobsons full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance, flex schedule, most people are very nice and approachable, talented team.

    Cons

Low salary, management has no idea how to scale the company to survive long term, product org is pretty screwed up lately, high turn over due to various issues mostly at middle management level. Worst of all, it is becoming very apparent that people are just treated like numbers and upper management has no clue about people development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Conduct anonymous reviews of your directors and managers from the people they manage. Stop saying one thing and doing another - make sure your middle managers are enforcing things in alignment with what you are asking get the upper management level. Get your product priorities straight. Learn about how other successful enterprises organize their structure and they way they work. Fire your directors and managers that have no idea how to develop and manage people effectively, and learn to challenge and develop the talents you have before they all run away. Don't lock yourself in a room and do everything yourself and make decisions all on your own, but reach out and seek the advice from your talented "soldiers" that really want to help and give them that opportunity to surprise you.

I worked at Hobsons full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great work life balance, lots of vacation specially in Dec, very talented people, pay is fair, you can debate and cus your way to the top.

    Cons

The product is very outdated and its a matter of time until a new product takes over the industry, micro management, very high turnover, hard to innovate, band-aid projects, micro management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much bureaucracy and all talk. There are a lot of "we are going to do this, we are going to do that." You have very talented people who are sitting ducks. Capitalize on them, invest on them, take the plunge and execute.
