    Pros

You are a life-line to the residents and sometimes the only person they can rely on for comfort, help, and conversation.

    Cons

From one day to the next you never know if you will have a job. Dog eat dog when it comes to community manager vs. community co manager vs. executive chef. Regional directors know less than community managers on how to run the buildings. Most programs are for "foot print" buildings if your in an older building everything changes Large rate increases show a lack of caring for the residents. Being told to take the responsibility for changes even if they are wrong and comes from corporate i.e. take the blame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Home Office needs to stop being so neurotic in the way they run the company. It wasn't broke when they took over the business but they keep trying to fix it. Now it is a real mess. New managers know nothing about the financials in the buildings you fired or are firing all the people who really knew/know how to run a building and do all the paperwork. This will be a problem as they go along. Many of these new managers are a lawsuit waiting to happen and the regional directors are no better. Fire or buy out whoever is calling the shots for this company. They have no clue!!! Make Holiday Retirement employee owned!

    I worked at Holiday Retirement

    Pros

It really is a good place to make a positive impact on the lives of seniors. That much of what Holiday promises is true.

    Cons

In the past two years, the corporate emphasis has gone from focusing on the seniors we serve to sales, sales, sales. There is no longer any opportunity for advancement, and many of the more experienced managers have been fired, demoted, or offered part-time positions. Policy changes constantly--the running joke is that if you don't like a policy, wait a day and it will change! The "old" Holiday promoted an atmosphere of camaraderie among the managers; in the new Holiday, the managers are essentially cut off from each other, and there is constantly a sense that you have to watch your back. Two years ago, Holiday announced a pilot program to replace the current management model of two live-in management teams with one team and a General Manager, who would be brought in from the outside. Although the project never quite got off the ground, and Holiday insists that they remain committed to the live-in manager model, many managers fear that it is only a matter of time before their positions are eliminated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rehire many of the experienced home office personnel who were let go about two years ago; return to the original concept of the "Holiday Touch." Consider freezing rents in this sluggish economy, or at least hold the increases to the rate of increase for Social Security benefits.
