I worked at Home Decorators Collection

Pros

Good work environment. Friendly co-workers and bosses. Usually got good feedback about whether I was doing a good job or not.

Cons

Limited opportunities. Unstructured protocols. Pay was decent but probably not inline with other jobs like the one I had. Industry is now in decline. Products were less than quality.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management relies to much on out sourced manufacturing to supply their products to minimize costs which is great for the bottom line. Ultimately the quality of the product is less than acceptable which does not lead to long term success or repeat costumers.

    Cons

    Work you insane hours
    No consistency
Higher ups change their minds and hold you accountable if you don't know that they changed their mind. Not a mind reader!!!
Different rules and guidelines for different managers, some get by with everything while others are held to a higher stander and than fired!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Clear rules!!
Policies written down and not varied from unless it is changed as a corporate memo.

I have been working at Home Decorators Collection

    Pros

The company offers a 50% discount to employees as well as their friends and family. They have a good selection of of area rugs and unique accessories and furniture to choose from.

    Cons

There's no commission even though they have a high expectations for the sales staff. The company does little to no advertising even though the parent company, The Home Depot, has ads for their stores all over the place. Sales associates are expected to reach certain sales goals although there's no reward, and therefore no incentive. The five stores are compared to each other, although they aren't on a level playing field. One of the stores occupies the same building as The Home Depot, which gives them exposure to a lot more customers. The sales associate position basically a slightly over minimum wage position. There's very little room for advancement and the annual raise is 25 cents per year. This isn't a company that I plan to stay at for long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advertise, advertise, advertise! Not a day goes by without a customer making the comment that even though they've always lived in the area, they had no idea that our store existed. At the very least, the catalogs should reference the store. If sales associates are expected to acheive sales goals, it would be appropriate to compensate them with commission pay. A 25 cent raise once a year is not even close to being enough. At the very least, the raise should equal the increased cost of living.
