Former Employee - Cashier
Former Employee - Cashier

I worked at Home Depot Canada part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Perfect for students. I was able to get days off for preparing exams. Great training on product and possibility to change department (paint, hardware).
After 3 months working there as a cashier, the store manager suggested me to participate to their store leadership program with possibility after the program to be a store manager. I declined but may be interesting for those who would like to do a career in retail. For those who like to travel, possibility to change store across Canada.
Had great managers, very friendly.

Cons

As a cashier on the contractor side, I had to do inspection of toilets. Not the kind of task I liked (regular cashiers wasn't doing that task)

I worked at Home Depot Canada

    Pros

    - Management was pretty nice and easy going at least in my Department/Store
    - Mostly awesome people to work with
    - Pretty flexible with things like time-off for those that wanted it
    - Very good about safety standards

    Cons

    - Not unionized, no job security whatsoever
    - They cut people's hours in the off-season
    - There are management issues which sometimes make people's jobs harder than they have to be
    - Extremely high level of turn over

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make store ordering and logistics more efficient so that Freight and Fullfillment can be more efficient. Give people better job security and try harder to lower turn over!
