I have been working at Home Goods

Pros

fun, stress- free environment, first dibs on some great merchandise

Cons

Horrible pay- minimum wage to start with miniscule increases. Department managers paid only slightly more. Pay increases take forever to show up on checks( still waiting a month for my last one), managers rarely seen except when they show up to tell you what a poor job you are doing. Policy changes are routinely made but not communicated. Managers give out job promotions without posting or allowing equal opportunities for all. Managers use the intercom to eavesdrop on employees. Managers refer to employees as "that girl", etc. because they cannot be bothered to learn people's names. Heard one manager make disparaging remarks about "old people" who cannot remember anything from one second to the next- in referring to older employees in the store. Managers certainly are not hired for their enlightened mangement styles, that is for sure. Terrible morale( and turnover) in my store, needless to say.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a few good people more money and get some management that treat employees with respect and not just as stupid cheap labor that are easily replaced by more dumb laborers. DM needs to check out store and employee happiness and not just numbers and bottom line issues. This company has not yet learned that happier employees equate with healthier bottom lines.

I have been working at Home Goods full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is a lot of opportunity to move up. They promote from within when possible.

    Cons

Employees only make minimum wage. It's hard to hire good people or keep them at this rate of pay. When it come to employees you get what you pay for.....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Very busy environment. Remember that people who are paid less care less about doing a good job or even showing up to work. Pay employees a decent wage and they will be more likely to care.
